You Have Time

Updated: Sep 20

This is what I WASN’T told...

I got the diagnosis confirmed on a Wednesday, had an appointment with a surgeon on the following Monday and she wanted me on the table that Thursday.

You’re not given time to think. You’re not given time to make an informed decision.

Cancer doesn’t appear in your body overnight.

It has been there for some time (some research says 7-10 years before it is detectable).

I took some time... I asked how long the surgeon would give me and she replied with 6 weeks. I was happy with that. I caught my breath (very hard to do when you’re in shock) and my husband and I went away for a few days without the kids to think, to research and check in with what felt right to us.

It’s a shitty situation whichever way you look at it but I’m so grateful that I asked for time.

Don’t get me wrong, the surgeon was not happy with me. I understand they are doing their job and abiding by the oath they took to save lives, I’m not anti conventional medicine at all, but I needed to do what felt right to me.

And that was to take some time...
